Introduction to Oil Painting with Chris Belton
Painting with oil paints is very similar to acrylics but offers more subtle and rich colour variations.
We will start with a simple still life whilst getting used to the medium.
Materials:
A support, either a small, but no smaller than A4 canvas or a board painted with 2 or 3 coats of gesso or flat house paint. (Sand between coats). Or oil painting paper from art supplier taped on a board.
Paints (Student quality): Large tube of Titanium White, Medium sized tube: Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue, Burnt Umber, Black
Brushes: A variety of shapes and sizes hog hair stiff bristles or manmade equivalent.
Mineral Turps
Vessels preferably not plastic
Lots of Rags
Painting Shirt/Apron
Plastic tablecloth (to protect work surface)
